State Representative Kevin Brooks Looks Forward To Tennessee’s Sustained Conservative Success

Lawmaker fought for historic tax cuts; supported education and military servicemen and women in 2017

(NASHVILLE) — Throughout the first half of the 110th Tennessee General Assembly, State Representative Kevin Brooks (R-Cleveland) focused on protecting the state’s conservative values and fought to support all Tennesseans by cutting taxes, funding infrastructure, and backing key education initiatives.

During the 2017 legislative session, Brooks supported the passage of the “Improving Manufacturing, Public Roads, and Opportunities for a Vibrant Economy (IMPROVE) Act, a sustainable plan that improves the state’s infrastructure by cutting down on the reported $10.1 billion backlog of road projects currently on Tennessee’s books. The IMPROVE Act also historically cuts taxes by more than $300 million annually, and creates high quality jobs that maintain Tennessee’s economic momentum.

Brooks fought to support the educational dreams of our National Guard members without fear of financial struggle by co-sponsoring the Support, Training and Renewing Opportunity for National Guardsmen (STRONG) Act. This important education initiative provides last-dollar scholarships to our state’s service members who meet eligibility requirements.

Representative Brooks was also instrumental in securing critical funding for broadband internet service expansion in House District 24, sponsoring the Tennessee Broadband Accessibility Act. The legislation helps address the need for reliable broadband internet services in rural Tennessee communities.

Additionally, Brooks sponsored House Bill 1064, which allows financial institutions to increase protection for elderly Tennesseans against financial exploitation. In 2017, he sponsored 16 bills, 41 resolutions and also co-sponsored 49 additional pieces of legislation.

“The investments that we have made in critical focus areas during the 2017 legislative session will move Tennessee forward with an eye on our future,” said Representative Brooks. “I am pleased that our work as a Republican supermajority continues to make this state even more desirable for businesses and families. I am also eager to continue this work in the months ahead and when we reconvene in 2018.”

Kevin Brooks serves as the Vice-Chairman of the House Finance, Ways & Means Committee. He is also a member of the House Calendar & Rules and House Insurance & Banking Committee, as well as the House Finance Ways & Means Subcommittee. Brooks lives in Cleveland and represents House District 24, which includes part of Bradley County. He can be reached by email at [email protected] or by calling (615) 741-1350.
