Tennessee General Assembly honors Oakland High School football team

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Oakland High School football team was honored by the Tennessee General Assembly on Monday for its historic 2022 championship season.

House Joint Resolution 6, sponsored by State Rep. Bryan Terry, MD, R-Murfreesboro, recognized the team for winning the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) Division I, Class 6A state championship in December.

“I could not be prouder of these young men and their coaches,” Terry said. “This team inspired the school and united the community during their championship season. In addition to achieving the highest level of success on the field, they have also demonstrated exceptional character in their personal lives as well. Congratulations to all of the players, coaching staff, students, school administrators and fans of the Oakland High School Patriots football team on this remarkable accomplishment.”

The team made history last year when it became the first school in Tennessee to win three consecutive BlueCross Bowl championships in the 6A classification.

“What a great honor and privilege,” Oakland football coach Kevin Creasy told state lawmakers about the recognition Monday. “Hopefully we can be back next year to make it four.”
