House Majority Leader William Lamberth, R-Portland, State Rep. William Slater, R-Gallatin, and State Rep. Johnny Garrett, R-Goodlettsville, today announced $41,000 in state funding has been awarded to the Trousdale Place Foundation in Gallatin.
The funds are part of a $5 million appropriation approved by the General Assembly for the Tennessee State Museum in the 2024-25 state budget.
“Sumner County’s plethora of historic sites and unique heritage deserve to be shared with residents and visitors,” the lawmakers said in a joint statement. “As the home of Tennessee’s 13th governor, Trousdale Place is an exceptional spot to learn about our community and state. We congratulate the organization on receiving this important grant and we look forward to seeing the completed projects.”
Trousdale Place was built in 1813 by John H. Bowen, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives in the Thirteenth Congress. The home was purchased by William Trousdale in 1836, thirteen years before becoming governor of Tennessee.
The Tennessee State Museum administers the competitive grants to museums and historic sites across the state for accessibility improvements, window and roof repairs and replacements, foundation work, and HVAC and electrical projects.
Eighty-three museums across 46 counties received a Capital Maintenance and Improvement Grant this year. Since the program’s inception in 2023, museums in 68 counties have been awarded funds to help preserve Tennessee’s history.
