NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Dan Howell, R-Cleveland, announced $210,000 in grant funding has been awarded to advance senior center projects in Bradley, Meigs and Polk County.
The funds are part of a $3 million appropriation approved by the Tennessee General Assembly and administered by the Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging (DDA) to help senior centers organize activities, host social events, or upgrade their facilities.
“Our senior centers provide valuable opportunities for older citizens to remain active and connect with friends,” Howell said in a statement. “These awards will help the facilities continue to provide engaging programming and resources for them. I was proud to support these important investments, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact the funds have on our community.”
Local grant recipients include:
- Bradley County Committee on Aging: $100,000
- Meigs County Senior Center: $100,000
- Copper Basin Senior Center: $10,000
The application process was competitive, with 147 centers in 86 counties applying for grant funding.
The DDA awarded 72 senior centers across 52 counties with one-time funding ranging from $6,000 to $100,000, according to the department.
Grantees are must use the funds for building improvements, equipment, programming, activities and marketing.
