Jonesborough Republican lone House member to receive honor
(NASHVILLE) — State Representative Matthew Hill (R-Jonesborough) today received the prestigious Capitol Caregivers Award from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).
The bipartisan award recognizes elected leaders who have fought to increase support for family caregivers and their loved ones.
During the 2017 legislative session, Representative Hill shepherded passage of House Bill 968; it allows disabled adults to have aides in order to assist them with health maintenance tasks.
According to the AARP website, 40 million Americans help parents, spouses and other loved ones live independently at home each day.
Caregiving is a labor of love, but it can also be a challenge. Responsibilities range from providing transportation, cooking meals, managing finances, performing complex medical tasks, helping with bathing and dressing, and much more.
“I am humbled and honored to receive this distinguished award from the AARP for supporting Tennessee’s caregivers,” said Representative Hill. “As an elected official, I pledge to continue to support initiatives that increase resources for our caregivers, as well as those that improve the quality of life for those who receive care.”
