Austin McMullen appointed by Speaker Harwell to the Tennessee Housing Development Agency Board of Directors

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Speaker of the House Beth Harwell (R-Nashville) has appointed Austin McMullen of Nashville to the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) Board of Directors. McMullen is an attorney with Bradley Arant Boult Cummings in Nashville.

“Austin McMullen is uniquely qualified to serve on the Tennessee Housing Development Agency Board of Directors, and I believe the organization will benefit from his voice and expertise,” said Speaker Harwell. “I am grateful that he accepted this appointment, and have full confidence that he, along with the rest of the board, continue to create safe, sound, affordable housing opportunities.”

Focusing his practice on bankruptcy law and government relations, Austin represents creditors and Chapter 11 debtors, businesses involved in federal, state and local permitting issues and parties in commercial litigation before state and federal courts. Austin is a board-certified Creditors Rights Specialist. He is the former Mayor of Oak Hill and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Tennessee Real Estate Commission.

“I am honored Speaker Harwell has appointed me to the THDA Board of Directors,” said McMullen. “I am excited to be a major asset in improving access to affordable housing for Tennesseans across the state,” he added.

From thda.org: The Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) is Tennessee’s housing finance agency, created by the General Assembly in 1973. THDA was created to promote the production of more affordable new housing units for very low, low and moderate income individuals and families in the state, to promote the preservation and rehabilitation of existing housing units for such persons, and to bring greater stability to the residential construction industry and related industries so as to assure a steady flow of production of new housing units.

In addition to serving as the primary administrator for numerous federal and state housing programs, THDA is authorized to issue tax-exempt Mortgage Revenue Bonds to support financing opportunities for first-time homebuyers and veterans. THDA is not a direct lender. THDA purchases qualified home loans originated through its private-sector lending partners. All THDA loans have 30-year, fixed-rate terms and offer a maximum grant of 5% in down-payment assistance. All homebuyers receiving down-payment assistance must complete a homebuyer education course.
