(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) — Tennessee House Commerce Committee Chairman Timothy Hill (R-Blountville) today announced he has secured a $50,000 grant for the Shady Valley Watershed District.
The funding is part of the Fiscal Year 2019-2020 budget; grant dollars will be used to clean laterals or drainage ditches that were installed in the creek in the 1960s to support flood control efforts across Beaver Dam Creek in the Northeast Tennessee region.
“I have worked with individuals from the State and the Watershed District to secure this greatly needed funding for several years,” said Chairman Hill. “No one gave up and we finally got it done. Now that this project has the funding needed to move forward, we can focus on improving overall safety for our citizens, while minimizing the threat of future flooding.”
Shady Valley is known as one of the Southern Appalachian’s most ecologically important areas, according to the Nature Conservancy. For more information, please click here.
