Rep. Brock Martin announces $928K to improve parks in Gibson County

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Brock Martin, R-Huntingdon, today announced $928,000 in state funding for Milan City Park and Shady Acres Park in Gibson County.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation will administer the grants through the Local Parks and Recreation Fund (LPRF), which was approved by members of the Tennessee General Assembly this year in the 2024-25 state budget.

“Being outdoors is essential to our health and well-being, and local parks offer an excellent way to get fresh air and enjoy nature,” Martin said. “These important grants will allow more residents to utilize our community’s excellent facilities. I thank everyone involved in the application process and TDEC for their significant investment into Gibson County.”

The city of Trenton received $553,000 for phase 1 of the Shady Acres Park revitalization plan, which includes a new drainage system; ballfield renovations; a new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant building with restrooms and a concession facility; construction of a new playground, pavilion and splash pad; and repairs to the walking trail.

The city of Milan received $375,000 to benefit City Park to be used for restrooms, concessions, and a press box structure. Additionally, the grant will help construct ADA-compliant pathways to connect ballfields and replace lighting for Field 3.

City and county governments can receive LPRF grants for trail development and capital projects in parks, greenways and natural areas. Additionally, the funds can be used to purchase land for eligible projects. The state’s funding matches local government investments to help expand access to outdoor opportunities and improve quality of life for Tennesseans.

More than $21 million in grants to 27 communities across Tennessee was allocated by the LPRF. For more information on the grant program, please visit: https://www.tn.gov/environment/outdoorrec.html
