Rep. Dan Howell secures $350,000 for Smart Factory Institute

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Dan Howell, R-Ocoee, has secured $350,000 in state funding for the Tennessee Association of Business Foundation to benefit the Smart Factory Institute located in the Partnerships in Industry and Education (PIE) Innovation Center in Cleveland.

The funding will allow the organization to provide research and support for small and large manufacturers across Tennessee.

“From family-owned businesses to global automobile companies, manufacturers have an impressive impact on Tennessee’s economy,” Howell said. “These funds will provide the necessary support for companies across the state to continue providing quality jobs, improving local economies and ensuring Tennessee stays on the frontlines of innovation and success. I thank my colleagues for recognizing the vital need to support the Volunteer State’s manufacturing industry.”

The Smart Factory Institute works to improve manufacturing processes through innovation and workforce training. The organization seeks to foster connections with other industry experts, increase collaborative academic and trade relationships and offer certifications using emerging technology.

The appropriated funds are part of a $52.8 billion zero-debt balanced budget that was passed by the General Assembly in April. Republican priorities include significant investments in rural and behavioral health care, school safety, education and public safety.

State Rep. Dan Howell represents House District 22, which includes Meigs, Polk and part of Bradley counties. He is chairman of the Transportation Committee and the Fiscal Review Committee and also serves on the Calendar and Rules Committee, Criminal Justice Committee, Criminal Justice Subcommittee and Transportation Subcommittee.
