Rep. Ed Butler secures $10,000 for Morgan Co. and City of Sunbright

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Ed Butler, R-Rickman, has secured $10,000 in state funding to assist with rebuilding efforts from the April 2 tornado in Sunbright.

Morgan County and the City of Sunbright will each receive $5,000 to be used for clean-up efforts or personnel overtime hours resulting from the tornado.

“The devastating tornado that tore through Sunbright earlier this year has required extensive clean-up efforts,” Butler said. “This funding will help ease the burden on the city and county and will hopefully speed up the rebuilding process. Residents and city leaders have come together and stepped up since April 2, and I thank my colleagues in the General Assembly for assisting in rebuilding efforts by supporting this important funding.”

On April 2, an EF-1 tornado ravaged parts of Sunbright. However, the community did not qualify for state or federal relief to help with rebuilding efforts.

The appropriated funds are part of a $52.8 billion zero-debt balanced budget that was passed by the General Assembly in April. Republican priorities include significant investments in rural and behavioral health care, school safety, education and public safety.

State Rep. Ed Butler represents House District 41, which includes Overton, Morgan and part of Anderson, Fentress and Roane counties. He serves on the Education Administration Committee, State Government Committee, Transportation Committee, Corrections Subcommittee and the Higher Education Subcommittee.
