Rep. Gant and Sen. Gresham announce $308,520 grant to boost fire protection services in McNairy County

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.)State Rep. Ron Gant (R-Rossville) and State Sen. Dolores Gresham (R-Somerville) announced today that a major Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) totaling $308,520 has been awarded to McNairy County for fire protection improvements.  The lawmakers made the announcement in conjunction with an announcement by Governor Bill Lee and the Department of Economic and Community Development regarding the award of CDBG grants statewide.

These funds will help tremendously in advancing fire protection for our citizens,” said Senator Gresham, who supported the grant.  “I am very pleased that these funds are forthcoming, especially because there was intense competition for limited grant money.  I also appreciate the excellent work by our local officials in helping to secure the funds and the Department of Economic and Community Development’s attention to this needed project.”

“Our firefighters risk their lives to protect and serve the citizens of McNairy County, and this critical funding will better support their lifesaving efforts,” said Rep. Gant. “I am honored to have partnered with Sen. Gresham, our Department of Economic & Community Development and our local leaders to help secure these grant dollars, and I will never stop fighting for additional resources that help make our communities safer.”

The funds were allocated under a procedure authorized by the Tennessee General Assembly.  ECD administers the grant program based on priorities set at the local level where community needs are best known.
