NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Jody Barrett, R-Dickson, applauded the recent creation of the Duck River Watershed Planning Partnership, which will preserve the Duck River and improve water resource management in the Volunteer State.
Gov. Bill Lee on Nov. 20 signed Executive Order 108, which established the partnership to help balance river conservation, economic growth and water resource management in the state.
“The Duck River is an invaluable resource to our local communities and the entire state,” Barrett said. “As Tennessee’s population increases and our economy thrives, we must work to ensure the river remains vibrant and accessible to those who rely on it. I thank Gov. Lee for his work advocating for responsible management of our rich natural resources, and I look forward to furthering our efforts to protect and preserve the Duck River.”
The Duck River Watershed Planning Partnership will develop responsible and sustainable watershed management recommendations to protect the environment and promote economic growth. The partnership will seek advice from local stakeholders and identify ways to ensure water loss reduction, among other priorities.
The river is one of the most biologically diverse in the world and the longest located entirely in Tennessee, flowing 284 miles and providing drinking water to 250,000 Tennesseans.
