State Rep. Lowell Russell, R-Vonroe, is encouraging local volunteer fire departments in Loudon and Monroe counties to apply for the 2024 Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training (VFEAT) Grant.
The grant can go toward the purchase of firefighting equipment used to extinguish fires and protect the lives of firefighters, not including fire trucks or vehicles. Funds can also be used to help departments pay or reimburse the cost share for federal grants that have already been awarded.
“Volunteer firefighters are courageous and selfless Tennesseans committed to keeping our communities safe,” Russell said. “Adequate resources and training are essential to safely fight fires and save lives, and this grant will help meet the needs of departments across the state. I’m proud to support and stand with firefighters and I strongly encourage local departments to apply for this important grant.”
Eligible fire departments must hold a valid recognition from the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) and have a staff comprised of less than 50% full-time career firefighters. The deadline to submit applications is Nov. 27, 2024, at 2 p.m. CT.
The VFEAT program was created in 2019 through legislation approved by the General Assembly. Since 2020, more than $16.5 million has been allocated to departments across Tennessee.
