Rep. Travis and Sen. Yager announce fire, sewer improvement grants in Rhea County

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  – State Rep. Ron Travis, R-Dayton, and Sen. Ken Yager, R-Kingston, announced today that two Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) have been awarded in Rhea County totaling a combined $1.05 million.

Spring City will receive $630,000 for sewer system improvements while Graysville will receive $420,000 for fire department improvements.

“Upgraded infrastructure will benefit residents and businesses across our community,” Travis said. “I appreciate TNECD and our local officials for supporting these projects and for this investment in Spring City and Graysville.”

The funds were awarded as part of a $28.5 million grant improvement package announced by Gov. Bill Lee and Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe to assist communities with infrastructure improvements, housing rehabilitations as well as health and safety initiatives. In all, 62 Tennessee communities were awarded grants through the program.

“These funds will go a long way toward improving critical infrastructure and emergency response in these communities,” Yager said. “I want to thank local officials for their partnership in securing this essential funding.”

The allocation of CDBG funds is based on priorities set through the public meeting process at the local community level. The CDBG program is funded through HUD and administered in Tennessee by the Department of Economic and Community Development. Funds are available for water and sewer improvements and new extensions, housing rehabilitation and health and safety projects.
