Representative Kane, Lieutenant Governor McNally, Senator Briggs Unveil New Signage For Veterans Memorial Mile

(NASHVILLE) — State Representative Roger Kane (R-Knoxville), Lieutenant Governor Randy McNally (R-Oak Ridge), and State Senator Richard Briggs (R-Knoxville) this week joined with local officials to unveil new signage for the Veterans Memorial Mile in Solway, Tennessee.

A portion of State Route 62 from the Solway Bridge to State Route 162, designated as the Veterans Memorial Mile, received the new signage under a measure sponsored by Representative Kane and Senator Briggs during the 2018 legislative session.

The new signs which are supported by funding from Lieutenant Governor McNally will be posted alongside a portion of the highway in honor of members from all three branches of America’s Armed Forces.

Under House Bill 1858/Senate Bill 1882, members of these branches and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will also partner together on future projects designed to beautify this portion of highway in Knox County.

“It is only appropriate that as we celebrate our nation’s birthday this week, we also honor the brave men and women who have fought to defend our flag and our freedom,” said Representative Kane. “I am hopeful that these signs will remind those who travel on the Veterans Memorial Mile of the selfless sacrifices made by our military heroes and inspire them to support our courageous service members and their families.”

“I believe these signs are an outstanding way to honor our veterans,” said Lieutenant Governor McNally. “They will serve as a consistent reminder of the sacrifices our veterans make to ensure our freedom and prosperity.”

“By allowing for the beautification projects, we hope that it results in a source of pride for our military branches,” said Senator Briggs.
