Finland-based tire manufacturer to bring 400 new jobs to Rhea County
(NASHVILLE) — Today, State Representative Ron Travis (R–Dayton) joined State Senator Ken Yager (R-Kingston) and Governor Bill Haslam to announce that Nokian Tyres will build its first North American manufacturing facility in Rhea County.
The Finland-based tire manufacturer plans to invest $360 million in the new facility that will bring 400 jobs with competitive salaries to Dayton. It is expected to open in 2020 and will have the capability to produce more than 4 million American-made tires annually. A recent tax cut for Tennessee manufacturers that was included in the Administration’s IMPROVE Act was likely a major factor in Nokian’s decision to build the new facility in Tennessee.
“I am thrilled that Nokian Tyres has decided to make this incredible commitment to our community,” said Representative Travis. “Today’s announcement continues Tennessee’s economic momentum and solidifies our state’s status as a leader in job creation.”
Nokian Tyres specializes in creating tires that can perform in extreme conditions. The manufacturer invented the first winter tire in 1934 and currently sells tires for all conditions and all vehicle types.
