Funds to cover new transit hub and administrative office complex
(NASHVILLE) — House Republican Caucus Chairman Ryan Williams (R-Cookeville) today announced that the Upper Cumberland Human Resources Agency (UCHRA) has received a $3 million grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT).
The monies will allow the agency to construct a new 30,000 square foot transit hub and administrative office complex located on Highway 111 in Putnam County. This new facility will house approximately 100 employees and is designed to centralize the agency’s operations.
UCHRA provides public transportation and other services to rural residents of all ages across the 14 county Upper Cumberland Region. According to its website, the public transportation services are funded by the Federal Transit Administration, TDOT, local human service contracts, fares, local revenues, and in-kind contributions.
Currently, UCHRA conducts about 900 trips each day — including 40-50 trips to and from Nashville.
“These funds create a huge opportunity for our organization,” said UCHRA Transportation Director Rebecca Harris. “I want to thank Representative Williams for his support throughout this entire process and for his help securing this critical funding; receiving these grant dollars means a great deal for our agency and our community.”
“Today’s announcement is tremendous news for our community and our entire region,” said Chairman Williams. “I am pleased that it will enable the UCHRA to better serve the men, women, and families who rely on our transit system in order to meet their daily needs.”
