(NASHVILLE) — House Republican Caucus Chairman Ryan Williams (R-Cookeville) today thanked Deputy Speaker Steve McDaniel (R-Parkers Crossroads) after McDaniel announced he would not seek re-election to the Tennessee House of Representatives following the 2018 legislative session.
Deputy Speaker McDaniel is currently one of the longest-tenured members of the House Republican Caucus. Presently, McDaniel is in his fifteenth term and was first elected to serve the hardworking men, women, and families of House District 72 in 1988.
McDaniel serves as Chairman of the House Rules, and House Ethics Committees; additionally, he is Chairman of the House Finance, Ways, & Means Study Subcommittee. McDaniel is also a member of the House Agriculture & Natural Resources, House Finance, Ways, & Means, and Joint Pensions & Insurance Committees, as well as the House Ethics and House Finance, Ways, & Means Subcommittees.
“Deputy Speaker McDaniel informed me of his decision not to seek re-election after the upcoming legislative session Wednesday evening,” said Chairman Williams. “As Caucus Chairman, I believe there has been no greater advocate for our state’s history and no one with a better understanding of House rules than Deputy Speaker McDaniel. Having the ability to rely on his knowledge and experience in these areas and others has been a tremendous resource for our caucus. I am grateful to him for his service to his constituents and to our state, and I know he will be greatly missed by his colleagues in the House chamber.”
