Republicans announce important community block grants in Carroll and Obion counties

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  – State Rep. Tandy Darby, R-Greenfield, Rep. Curtis Halford, R-Dyer, and Sen. John Stevens, R-Huntingdon, announced today that three Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) have been awarded in Carroll and Obion counties totaling a combined $1.4 million.

Two of the grants will be used for sewer system improvements with Obion County receiving $564,000 and Bruceton receiving $511,750 in funding. Carroll County will receive $371,700 for fire equipment acquisition.

“It’s important that we upgrade our infrastructure to best serve residents and businesses in our communities,” Darby said. “I appreciate our state and local leaders for their work on these projects and for investing in the future of Carroll and Obion counties.”

The funds were awarded as part of a $28.5 million grant improvement package announced by Gov. Bill Lee and Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe to assist communities with infrastructure improvements, housing rehabilitations as well as health and safety initiatives. In all, 62 Tennessee communities were awarded grants through the program.

“These projects will provide improvements to key parts of our local infrastructure,” Halford said.

“Investments likes these ensure that our community remains a wonderful place to live and do business for generations to come.”

The allocation of CDBG funds is based on priorities set through the public meeting process at the local community level. The CDBG program is funded through HUD and administered in Tennessee by the Department of Economic and Community Development. Funds are available for water and sewer improvements and new extensions, housing rehabilitation and health and safety projects.

“These funds will go a long way toward improving critical infrastructure in Obion and Carroll counties,” Stevens said. “I’m grateful to local officials for their partnership in supporting these essential expenditures that improve necessary infrastructure.”
