(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) — Tennessee House Speaker Glen Casada (R-Thompson’s Station) has named State Representative Clay Doggett (R-Pulaski) Vice-Chairman of the House Commerce Committee. This is an honor rarely bestowed upon first-year lawmakers.
The 18-person House Commerce Committee will be responsible for all matters pertaining to Tennessee commerce. This includes all laws related to business and utilities, as well as legislation concerning banking and lending institutions.
“We are fortunate to have an extremely gifted group of freshman lawmakers, and Representative Doggett has already emerged as one of its leaders,” said Speaker Casada. “I am excited about the new energy and ideas he will bring to this important committee, and our General Assembly, and I know he will be successful.”
“I am humbled that Speaker Casada has chosen me to serve as one of the leaders of the House Commerce Committee,” said Representative Doggett. “Tennessee is experiencing economic growth and prosperity unlike any time we have ever seen before. My colleagues and I are committed to creating new solutions and allocating additional resources to ensure these successful trends continue in Tennessee.”
Representative Doggett was officially sworn in to office on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019.
He is currently the House Republican Caucus Secretary and will also serve as a member of the House Judiciary Committee, as well as the House Business and Criminal Justice Subcommittees. Doggett lives in Pulaski and represents Tennessee House District 70, which includes Giles and part of Lawrence Counties.
