(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) — Tennessee House Speaker Glen Casada (R-Thompson’s Station) has named State Representative Kirk Haston (R-Lobelville) Vice-Chairman of the House Education Committee.
This is an honor rarely bestowed upon first-year lawmakers. However, Representative Haston’s extensive teaching and education experience is vital to the success of this important committee, as well as our entire General Assembly.
The 23-person House Education Committee will be responsible for all education-related matters. These include testing, curriculum, K-12, higher education, and all administrative issues.
“Representative Haston’s knowledge and experience on all matters related to education will be a tremendous benefit to our House Education Committee,” said Speaker Casada. “I appreciate his willingness to serve as Vice-Chairman of this important committee and as a member of our General Assembly, and I know Representative Haston and his colleagues will be successful.”
“I am honored that Speaker Casada has appointed me to serve as Vice-Chairman of the House Education Committee,” said Representative Haston. “Tennessee has made great progress improving our education system in recent years, but we have more work ahead. Our children are the future leaders of this state, and I know we will continue to provide additional resources to them so they can achieve their goals and dreams.”
Representative Haston was officially sworn in to office on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019. He will also serve on the House Commerce Committee, as well as the House Banking & Investments and the K-12 Subcommittees. Haston lives in Lobelville and represents Tennessee House District 72, which includes Henderson, Chester, Decatur, and Perry Counties.
