(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) – Tennessee House Speaker Glen Casada (R-Thompson’s Station) today named State Representative Matthew Hill (R-Jonesborough) Deputy Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives.
Hill is one of the longest-tenured House members, having served since 2005. He is the first Northeast Tennessee lawmaker to serve in this position in at least the last 23 years. As Deputy Speaker, Representative Hill will help schedule and guide the flow of legislation on the House floor. Additionally, he will assist Speaker Casada in the administrative decisions of the House, chair the House Ethics and House Rules Committees, and serve as a liaison to both local and national legislatures.
“Representative Hill has been a dedicated and faithful servant of our General Assembly for several years, and I know his experience will benefit our entire leadership team in his position as our Deputy Speaker,” said Speaker Casada. “I am grateful for his willingness to serve in this vital role, and I know he will play a big part in the future success of his community and our state.”

Hill previously served as a member of the Finance, Ways, & Means and House Health Committees, as well as the House Health and House Rules Subcommittees during the 110th General Assembly.
