State lawmakers announce museum improvement grant in Bradley Co.

State Rep. Dan Howell, R-Cleveland, and State Rep. Kevin Raper, R-Cleveland, today announced more than $77,000 in state funding has been awarded to the Museum and Cultural Center at Five Points in Cleveland for capital maintenance and improvement projects.

The funds are part of a $5 million appropriation approved by the General Assembly for the Tennessee State Museum in the 2024-25 state budget.

“The Ocoee Region’s rich cultural heritage is intriguing and we appreciate the Museum at Five Points for sharing it with the community,” the lawmakers said in a joint statement. “Preserving history is important, and this organization does an excellent job ensuring residents and visitors have a place to engage with Bradley County’s past. We thank the Tennessee State Museum for its dedication to preservation and education across the Volunteer State.”

The Museum at Five Points was opened to the public in 1999 and houses exhibits, artifacts, and art that help tell the story of the Ocoee Region.

The Tennessee State Museum administers the competitive grants to museums and historic sites across the state for accessibility improvements, window and roof repairs and replacements, foundation work, and HVAC and electrical projects.

Eighty-three museums across 46 counties received a Capital Maintenance and Improvement Grant this year. Since the program’s inception in 2023, museums in 68 counties have been awarded funds to help preserve Tennessee’s history.
