State Rep. Chris Hurt, R-Halls, and State Rep. Brock Martin, R-Huntingdon, today announced that $85,850 in state funding has been awarded to the West Tennessee Regional Art Center in Humboldt for capital maintenance and improvement projects.
The funds are part of a $5 million appropriation approved by the General Assembly for the Tennessee State Museum in the 2024-25 state budget.
“The West Tennessee Regional Art Center is an excellent organization with incredible exhibits,” the lawmakers said in a joint statement. “Their work educating the public and providing community engagement opportunities is important, and we thank them for their dedication to Gibson County. We’re grateful to the Tennessee State Museum for their work administering this funding.”
The West Tennessee Regional Art Center opened in 1994 in Humboldt’s restored city hall building. Its collections include paintings, sculptures, prints, and folk art.
The competitive grants are administered by the Tennessee State Museum to museums and historic sites across the state for accessibility improvements, window and roof repairs and replacements, foundation work, and HVAC and electrical projects.
Eighty-three museums across 46 counties received a Capital Maintenance and Improvement Grant this year. Since the program’s inception in 2023, museums in 68 counties have been awarded funds to help preserve Tennessee’s history.
State Reps. Christ Hurt of House District 82 and Brock Martin of House District 79 each represent part of Gibson County.
