State lawmakers announce waste management grants for Henry and Houston counties

State Rep Tandy Darby, R-Greenfield, and State Rep. Jay Reedy, R-Erin today announced that $43,000 in grants have been awarded to Henry and Houston counties for waste management improvements from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC).

Henry County received $30,500 for a used oil collection tank and storage tank, while Houston County received $12,500 for a used oil collection tank and spill pan, concrete pad and canopy.

“This important funding will help ensure safe and easy disposal of used oil,” the lawmakers said in a joint statement. “Responsible waste management is essential for clean communities, and these grants will play a significant role in protecting our local environments. We thank TDEC for their work administering this funding and we look forward to the integral impact these projects will have in Henry and Houston counties.”

More than 1,100 used oil collection sites across Tennessee allow residents to properly and safely dispose of used automotive fluid, including oil and antifreeze.

Thirty-two communities across Tennessee received waste management grants in 2024, totaling $1.3 million. TDECs Division of Solid Waste Management administered the grants to help local communities meet solid waste and recycling goals.

State Rep. Tandy Darby represents House District 76, which includes Weakley and part of Carroll and Henry counties. State Rep. Jay Reedy represents House District 74, which includes Benton, Houston, Humphreys, Stewart and part of Henry counties.
