State Rep. Michele Carringer passes first bill

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Michele Carringer, R-Knoxville, officially passed her first bill as a member of the Tennessee General Assembly and the House Republican Caucus. House Bill 62 passed unanimously on Thursday, March 25.

House Bill 62 revises provisions related to adoption records maintained by the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services. The bill modifies record-keeping practices related to the underutilized contact veto and adoption advance notice registries, allowing DCS to redirect resources towards other adoption efforts.

“Removing these burdensome requirements for the Department of Children’s Services is doing what we as legislators have pledged to do: to make government work better,” Carringer said. “I was honored to carry this legislation on behalf of House leadership and Gov. Bill Lee, and I applaud my colleagues in the General Assembly for their overwhelming support of this bill.”
