State Rep. Rick Eldridge announces $392K grant award for Grainger County Park improvements

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — State Rep. Rick Eldridge, R-Morristown, announced$392,000 in federal funding was awarded for an ADA compliant walking trail at Grainger County Park.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) will administer the grants through the Recreational Trails Program (RTP).

“Local parks provide citizens with opportunities to gather with friends or work on their wellbeing,” Eldridge said. “The new walking trail at Grainger County Park will provide all residents the chance to enjoy beautiful lake views and the great outdoors. Congratulations to everyone who worked hard to make this idea a reality, and thank you to TDEC for supporting our community.”

Grainger County Park is a 100-acre park situated on Cherokee Lake. County leaders plan to use the funds to construct a nearly one-mile long (3,800 LF) asphalt walking trail that winds throughout an undeveloped wooded area along the lake.

There will also be ADA parking at the trailhead, necessary bollards and signage included in the project.

The RTP provides federal funding to match local government investments for land acquisition for trails, non-routine trail maintenance, trail construction, trail rehabilitation and trail head support facilities.

For more information on the RTP program and how to apply, visit the Office of Outdoor Recreation website here.

Rick Eldridge represents District 10 which includes Grainger and part of Hamblen Counties.
