State Representative Chris Todd To Carry Legislation On Behalf Of House Leadership, Governor Bill Lee

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) — House Majority Leader William Lamberth (R-Portland) and Assistant Majority Leader Ron Gant (R-Rossville) today announced that State Representative Chris Todd (R-Jackson) has been chosen as a co-prime sponsor to shepherd House Bill 937 through the legislative process on behalf of Republican leadership.

The measure is part of Governor Lee’s legislative package for the year, which is traditionally sponsored by the House Majority Leader and Assistant Majority Leader. Because of Chairman Todd’s leadership abilities and his passion for our law enforcement members and firefighters, he is the ideal person to handle all details related to House Bill 937.

“Chairman Todd is a strong voice for our local police and firefighters in our General Assembly,” said Leader Lamberth. “I know he will do a great job guiding this initiative through the committee process, and I look forward to working with him to pass this important measure.”

“I appreciate Chairman Todd’s willingness to guide this legislation through the House,” said Assistant Leader Gant. “Our heroic police officers and firefighters will benefit tremendously from this legislation, and I appreciate Representative Todd’s advocacy on their behalf.”

House Bill 937 increases supplemental wages for those who protect and serve our communities, and those who are called upon to respond during fires and other emergencies after they complete 40 hours of in-service training. These brave men and women risk their lives for the citizens of Tennessee, and this initiative is a small way Republican leaders can support them in their daily efforts.

“I am grateful to Governor Lee, and our House leadership team for asking me to carry this legislation,” said Chairman Todd. “Our police and our firefighters are committed to the safety and well-being of our citizens. This initiative is a small way we can thank them for their service to our community and to Tennessee.”

House Bill 937 advanced out of the Cities & Counties Subcommittee on Tuesday. It will now be heard by members of the House Local Committee.

Chris Todd serves as Freshman Leader for the 111th Tennessee General Assembly. He is also Vice-Chair of the House Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee, a member of the House State Government Committee, and a member of both the House Agriculture & Natural Resources and House Corrections Subcommittees. Todd lives in Madison County and represents Tennessee House District 73, which includes most of Madison County.
