State Representative Jason Zachary’s First Responders Appreciation Event Set For October 2

(NASHVILLE) — State Representative Jason Zachary (R-Knoxville) today announced he is hosting his annual First Responders Appreciation Event on Tuesday, October 2, 2018.

It is scheduled to begin at 10:00AM and will be held at the Rural Metro Fire Station, located at 160 N. Campbell Station Road in Knoxville, Tennessee. This year’s event will feature former University of Tennessee baseball star and former Kansas City Royals pitcher Luke Hochevar.

The First Responders Appreciation Event provides a unique opportunity each year for the men, women, and families of District 14 and Knox County to thank those who make selfless sacrifices in efforts to improve safety for residents in the communities they serve.

“It is important to make sure we honor and thank the unsung heroes of our community,” said Representative Zachary. “That is why we take time out each year at this event to recognize and thank our first responders for putting their lives on the line each day to protect and serve our remarkable community.”

During the 2018 session, Representative Zachary supported House Bill 1510, also known as the Tennessee Public Safety & Behavioral Health Act. The measure provides Emergency Medical Services (EMS) workers and professional firefighters with access to support services at no cost in an effort to assist in the treatment of mental and behavioral health issues — including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

These dedicated, public service employees will respond to thousands of calls during their careers, and unfortunately, some will remain with them forever. In cases involving PTSD, counseling services may help them cope. The overall goal of the initiative is to promote the use of mental and behavioral health service providers to professionals who may benefit from them.

Jason Zachary serves as the Vice-Chair of the House & Insurance Banking Committee. He is also a member of the House Transportation Committee and the House Insurance & Banking Subcommittee. Zachary lives in Knoxville and represents House District 14, which includes part of Knox County. He can be reached by email at Rep.Jason.Zachary@capitol.tn.gov or by calling (615) 741-2264.
