(NASHVILLE) — State Representative Matthew Hill (R-Jonesborough) today announced a $36,350 Used Oil Grant from the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation (TDEC) for Washington County.
The monies are supported by the Used Oil Collection Fund, which receives its revenues from a fee collected against every quart of oil sold. Funded projects fall into the following categories: Recycling Hub and Spoke, Recycling Equipment, Recycling Rebate, as well as Used Oil and Convention Centers.
Allocated funds for this specific project will be used for oil storage tanks, as well as antifreeze collection tanks. These grants are part of a broader initiative by TDEC, in partnership with the Tennessee General Assembly, to encourage and promote community recycling projects in an effort for Tennessee to further reduce landfill waste.
“This grant award is great news for our community,” said Representative Hill. “The monies will help us reduce certain environmental risks associated with storage of potentially dangerous materials; this will improve the safety and quality of life for our residents. I will continue to fight for additional funding that will not only benefit the well-being of our current citizens, but also our future generations.”
