(NASHVILLE) – State Representative Matthew Hill (R-Jonesborough) and State Representative Micah Van Huss (R-Johnson City) today announced a $100,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) has been awarded to the Town of Jonesborough.
The monies were allocated to the town by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) for commercial façade improvements. They can be used for downtown improvements including new awnings, signage, paint, building repairs, and other upgrades.
Founded in 1779, Jonesborough is Tennessee’s oldest town; it was established 17 years before Tennessee was even granted statehood and was frequented by former President Andrew Jackson in the late 1700s. It is also known as the Storytelling Capital of the World.
“This announcement is great news for our community, and I want to congratulate our local officials and our citizens,” said Representative Hill. “It is very exciting to know that our community will receive this important funding to help preserve our history and restore our buildings.”
“I am extremely grateful for this investment by TNECD in our treasured community,” said Representative Van Huss. “These grant dollars will help us update our landmark structures and create a new energy among our residents.”
