(NASHVILLE) — A measure sponsored by State Representative Jay Reedy (R-Erin) that secures Tennessee’s borders and outlaws sanctuary cities in our state will become law.
House Bill 2315 adds teeth to Tennessee’s existing immigration laws by holding any Tennessee city or local municipality that provides safe harbor to illegal immigrants accountable for their actions.
Those who are found in noncompliance with the measure would be ineligible to receive economic development grants from the state until they abandon policies that encourage illegal immigration.
Additionally, House Bill 2315 encourages cooperation between local and federal law enforcement as they enforce federal immigration laws, jointly protecting Tennessee from those that violate them.
“While we have seen other states across our nation support illegal immigration, this measure ensures that our communities and our state are never jeopardized by policies that protect bad actors and promote open borders,” said Representative Reedy. “I am pleased that Governor Haslam will allow this measure to become law because this legislation puts Tennessee and its citizens first.”
