(NASHVILLE) — House Majority Leader Glen Casada (R-Thompson’s Station) today announced more than one million dollars in funding for school safety upgrades at academic institutions in District 63.
The monies are a portion of approximately $35 million in budget funding — $25 million in one-time funding and $10 million in recurring grants — approved as part of Republican-led efforts during the 2018 legislative session to increase protections for our future leaders.
Each school system submitted funding requests for specific needs identified during a recent security review of facilities conducted by school officials and local law enforcement.
Dollar amounts were awarded based upon each district’s relative share of the Basic Education Program (BEP) — the formula through which state education dollars are generated and distributed to our schools.
Specifically, Franklin Special School District will receive $29,800 in recurring funds and $74,500 in non-recurring monies to be used for improvements to visitor management, perimeter control, and surveillance upgrades.
Additionally, Williamson County Schools will receive $267,220 in recurring monies and $668,050 in non-recurring funds for surveillance enhancements and school resource officers.
“We must prioritize the safety of the future leaders of this community and our state,” said Leader Casada. “I commend my House Republican colleagues for securing this vital funding that will better protect our schools. I know we will continue to identify new solutions in the years ahead that will further enhance the well-being of our students, teachers, and staff members.”
