(NASHVILLE) — State Representative Matthew Hill (R-Jonesborough), State Representative Micah Van Huss (R-Johnson City), and State Senator Rusty Crowe (R-Johnson City) today announced that construction plans on the Boones Creek Exit in northern Washington County are moving forward.
Listed on the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s (TDOT) three-year plan, the Boones Creek project covers a two-mile portion of Knob Creek Road from Boones Creek Road to Mizpah Drive; it is expected to be completed over the course of the next 18 months.
Once completed, it will ensure adequate and efficient transportation for Tennessee’s agricultural industry and other small town businesses while also improving access to Interstate 26 as part of TDOT’s Rural Access program.
“I am pleased that the Boones Creek project is moving forward and is on target for completion as scheduled,” said Representative Hill. “It is an honor to work with my fellow legislators, local leaders, as well as TDOT in order to improve transportation accessibility and safety for our residents.”

“The Boones Creek community has grown tremendously in the past few years,” said Senator Crowe. “With new industries making plans for the Boones Creek area and a new school being built, it is very important that we plan for this growth from a transportation perspective. I appreciate the help of the Department of Transportation and our Governor as we move forward toward completion of this project hopefully sometime in the next year or so. This new interchange is greatly needed and I am pleased that the project is moving forward.”
“Project Development staff is currently finalizing engineering plans to begin the utility coordination process,” said Tennessee Department of Transportation Project Manager Eric Wilson. “With no right-of-way acquisition needed for the proposed improvements, this process is anticipated to take up to 9 months. Once completed, the project can be let to construction, pending available funding. At this time, we anticipate construction activities to begin in early 2019.”
