(NASHVILLE) – Speaker Beth Harwell (R-Nashville) has appointed Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters to TACIR, the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Affairs.
The commission consists of public officials from state and local government as well as private citizens whose primary mission is to provide research and in-depth analysis to improve the overall quality and effectiveness of government in Tennessee.
“I’m honored to have been chosen to serve on this commission by House Speaker Beth Harwell. Throughout my years of public service, I have witnessed the positive improvements and changes that originated from TACIR’s recommendations,” stated Mayor Waters. “I look forward to the year ahead and the thoughtful debate and discussion that will lead to an even better government for the people of this state.”
Over the years, TACIR has studied issues ranging from public infrastructure to government modernization, and most recently, education financing and accountability. The commission is currently considering annexation issues, which the General Assembly directed via resolution. If called upon, the commission also responds to technical requests by state agencies and local governments.
“I want to thank Mayor Waters for stepping forward and offering his time to improve government across the state by serving on this body,” said Speaker Harwell. “Evaluating and studying governments’ functions leads to a more efficient and effective government for all.”
