NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Matthew Hill, R-Jonesborough, today provided an update on several important highway projects managed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation in Washington.
More than a dozen construction projects totaling $20,000,000 are moving forward which will serve to improve safety and support economic growth.
“I’m glad to see we’re making progress on these important projects that will help improve traffic and road safety for residents of Washington County,” Hill said. “I appreciate the work of our local officials and am grateful for TDOT’s commitment in moving these projects forward.”
These projects include the anticipated completion of the I-26 interchange at SR-354 in Washington County. This project improves the interchange at Exit 17 and cost nearly $14,500,000.
Projects slated to be completed in 2020 include:
– $3,065,000 for an industrial access road serving Clinical Management Concepts in Johnson City to be completed in May 2020.
– $824,000 for bridge construction and repair over SR-354 and Boones Creek in Johnson City which is expected to be completed September 2020.
-$1,019,000 for improvements to an intersection at Bugaboo Springs Road to be completed June 2020.
-$383,000 for new highway marking and county maintenance building to be completed by July 2020.
Engineering is underway for several more projects including:
– Improvements to SR-34/US-11E from Big Limestone Rd to McIntruff Rd.Improvements to SR-34/US-11E from Big Limestone Rd to Culver Rd.
– Improvements to SR-34/US-11 E bridge replacement over CSX Railroad
– Bridge Replacement over Little Limestone Creek (Old SR-34)
Safety improvements scheduled:
– Improvements to SR-93 from Morgan Lane to South of Baileytown Rd.
– North Davis Road to North of Fire Hall Road – a contract for construction is scheduled to be let in the first quarter of 2020.
-From Interstate 81 to SR-347 (Lone Star Road) Preliminary engineering is underway; the right of way and/or utility process is underway.
-Widening Knob Creek Road from DR-354 (Boones Creek Road) to Mizpah Hills Drive; early stages of development.
-New signals at the intersection of Harris Drive in Johnson City.
