(NASHVILLE) — State Representative Kelly Keisling (R-Byrdstown) recently presented a $223,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to the Allardt Fire Department to assist with the purchase of their new fire tanker.
The monies were awarded to the Fentress County community through the Tennessee Department of Economic & Community Development (TNECD) last fall. They were allocated under a procedure authorized by the Tennessee General Assembly and administered by the TNECD based on priorities set at the local level where community needs are best known.
An all-volunteer emergency service organization, the Allardt Fire Department serves two thirds of Fentress County which includes 12,000 people and a portion of Big South Fork National Forest. The addition of this new equipment will enhance coverage in Fentress County, and also assist emergency personnel serving communities in neighboring Scott and Morgan Counties.
“Our firefighters in our growing community must have access to critical resources they need to assist them in better protecting our citizens while ensuring their personal safety,” said Representative Keisling. “I am honored to have fought for them and to have helped secure this critical funding that will improve the well-being of our residents by enhancing fire protection throughout our region.”
